Joseph Hall, poet and satirist, became Bishop of Norwich in 1641. He was deeply involved in the religious controversies of the day. This volume, in the hand of an unknown scribe, contains his "Holie meditations and wholesome observations" (n.d.), "Pharisaisme and Christianitie compared and set forth" (1608), "The Passion" (n.d.) and three epistles. Also included is William Burton's "A Sermon of David's thanks-giving for the arraignement of the man of Earth" (1598). Burton was a notable Puritan divine.
